In April, Union College Physician Assistant students attended the Nebraska Academy of Physician Assistants (NAPA)’s annual spring Continuing Medical Education (CME) conference.
The (CME) conference spanned four days that were filled with food, medical lectures and networking with peers from across Nebraska.
Two of Union College’s students—Renee Kershaw and Rebecca Meggers—participated in the student presentation competition, and Meggers won.
Kershaw presented a compelling argument on the effects of prolonged sitting entitled, “Sitting Might Kill You and Exercise Won’t Save You.”
“It was a wonderful experience” said Kershaw. “I would absolutely go back. I enjoyed interacting with my future peers and getting valuable public speaking practice.”
In addition, two Union students—Alys Seay and Andrew Kubisch—received a 2018 NAPA Scholarship while attending the conference.
Seay used her knowledge and expertise gained at Union to answer questions about health care, and why she wanted to be a PA.
“I felt honored and really grateful to NAPA for the $1,000 scholarship. They go out of their way to support the PA programs in Nebraska,” said Seay. “When I came to Union for my interview, I was impressed by the faculty, how personable they were and how much they cared. That’s the reason I chose Union, and I’ve found the caring I saw wasn’t just to sell me on the program. It’s how it really is.”
